If you are planning an active sonar experiment or exercise and would like recommendations to minimize the risk to marine mammals, please contact us at solmar@nurc.nato.int and provide us with the following information:
- Dates of activity
- Latitude and longitude of experiment area
- Active sonar characteristics
- Activity plan (number of vessels, vessel tracks, etc.)
Using our decision tools, we can provide you with recommendations on how to minimize potential impact to marine mammals during your experiment. We can examine the types and density of species for the area and time of year, the environmental conditions, and the characteristics of your sound transmissions. We can also provide you with sound samples and photographs to help with species identification during your experiment.
